Why choose a Garden Designer?

We get this question all the time. Why choose a garden designer? What are the benefits? Put simply, we are the architects of your garden. We know what is feasible in terms of landscaping with your existing space and with our excellent plant and land knowledge, we generate beautiful and unique designs specifically for you.

Having a well thought out and designed garden has been proven to up the value of your property, meaning that our services don’t only generate luscious spaces for you and your family to enjoy, but also play a key role in upping your most precious asset’s value.

The Design Process.

Step 1: Consultation and Concept

The first step of garden design is a design consultation. Prior to the appointment, a form will be sent over for you to fill out outlining what you, the client, know that you want in your garden. This can be anything from having an idea of a design style, to simply knowing you would like to have at least one of a particular plant in your garden.

In our consultation, we will cover options for your garden, what can be covered within your budget and potential colour schemes and concept ideas.

Following your appointment, you will receive a document detailing all we have discussed, along with some concept ideas and a mood board for your garden. All of this is covered within the initial deposit.

Step 2: Survey

Once you are happy with the concept ideas and mood boards, we then move on to the survey stage. This is a land and site survey outlying boundaries and existing key elements of the garden, along with access, services and restrictions within the garden and property. Depending on the size and levels of the garden, Hesperides Horticulture itself may complete the survey, or for large or more complex gardens, another specialist will be brought in to survey. In both instances, this will be an accurate, to scale, representation of your garden and plot to be worked on, a fundamental phase in the design process. .

Step 3: Garden Design

Once the survey has been completed, we then move into the design phase. We will create a bird’s eye view of your garden with landscaping and soft landscaping features outlined, a plant list and description, and landscaping and building specifications outlined. Visual depictions and walk throughs of your space can also be developed, budget depending. An implementation plan will also be developed, giving a thorough step by step plan for implementing the installation of the garden.

Upon presenting the plans to you, and with certainty that the plans are all to your satisfaction, we then move on to the exciting part. The build.

Step 4: The Build

Though we at Hesperides do not Landscape ourselves, we do vet out landscapers for your garden project to ensure that the most suitable landscapers are working in your garden. After the vetting process has been completed and the right landscapers chosen, a meeting is then arranged between yourself, Hesperides and the chosen Landscape company to discuss the design and any questions they may have.

Landscaping starts. The project is then handed over to the landscape team, and we at Hesperides monitor the construction of your garden by liaising with the landscapers and visiting the project at various phases of construction.

When construction has been completed, planting can then be carried out by Hesperides, or an additional company depending on your needs.

Step 5: Enjoy!

The time has come for you to sit out, relax and enjoy your new outdoor space.
